Meet your new Commander
Hello, I am Robin Brandt. I am very excited to be your newest Post 387 Commander. I look forward to this opportunity to help our post become all that we want it to be. I want it to be GREAT!
I begin this role with much appreciation for outgoing commander Allen Nohl. Allen has been the face and FORCE of Post 387. He has given his heart and soul into leading us to provide support for our veteran community. We owe him the utmost respect and gratitude. Please thank Allen for his outstanding contributions. Thankfully, he will continue to serve with us as Vice Commander.
A bit about ME…..I was born in a small rural community of Britton in Northeastern South Dakota. I grew up on cattle, sheep, and grain ranch, the oldest of six children. After High School, I followed in my father’s footsteps and joined the Air Force. I joined to see the world and go somewhere WARM; I had many DREAMS of FLORIDA! So, they sent me to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Fortunately, there, I met my wife (now of 43 years- Donna), and we had twins Travis and Elizabeth who live in Milwaukee and are blessed with 2 wonderful grandchildren (Ethan and Sarah). I was fortunate to continue to serve in the Air Force in Montana then joined the Recruiting Service as a recruiter in Milwaukee. With a 3-year stint to FINALLY FLORIDA… I returned to Milwaukee and finished my career of 22 years as the Recruiting Supervisor- this was 2002.
I wanted to continue public service, so I transitioned to a position with the USDA/Forest Service. Regional Headquarters for the Eastern Region in Milwaukee. I served as Office Manager and we oversaw the management of 15 National Forests (from Minnesota to Maine, and Michigan to West Virgina). I continued to serve until I retired in 2024. We moved from Milwaukee to our retirement/forever home outside Elkhart Lake in 2022. It was at the Memorial Day Program held at Rhine Center where I first met Allen. Hearing my story, he quickly invited me to transfer from my original Post in Michigan that I had joined some 30+ years prior. (LOVE THAT RECRUITING!) I DID in fact transfer that membership- and HERE I AM!
My goals are simple, realistic, and attainable. I want our Post to be Visible, Welcoming, and Available to our communities’ veterans. I want to involve the Cooperation of our partners in the Legion Auxiliary and Sons of American Legion members. We will work and partner with the other local Veterans and Community Organizations to promote Americanism and Support our Veterans.
Together WE can achieve GREAT things! I look forward to meeting you ALL and encourage you to attend our meetings held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the Herman Town Hall. Please participate and offer your suggestions and support to maintain and BUILD our POST to become the Post WE want it to be. This is OURS….TOGETHER.
Best wishes, Robin 😊
